Google sells out of Nexus 4 smartphones in minutes

Google began taking orders for their Nexus 4 smartphone in both 4GB and 8GB models and completely sold out of both models in minutes. One of the main reasons both smartphones sold out so quickly is because Google is bypassing carriers and selling it on the Google Play Store unlocked for $299 (4GB), and $349 (8GB). This type of pricing is unheard of for unlocked devices. In comparison Apple is expected to begin selling unlocked iPhone 5s for $649 (16GB), $749 (32GB), and $849 (64GB).
